Out and About: Seats at the Table

Seats at the Table "The Manifestation of Self Reflective Truth"

Friday Nov 17, 2017 I had the honor of taking part in a wonderful cultural event. The Lineage Group, RevAARTlution hosted an art show titled "Seats at the Table: Manifestation of Self Reflective Truth" I was most privileged to share six of my photographs inspired by Solange's A Seat at the Table Album. All the pieces were inspired by the album. There were musical and dance performances as well as spoken word. If you missed out --you missed out!

This album was important for many reasons --it was personal and authentic. It inspired my growth as an artist - aesthetically and theme wise. I wanted to create a series of images through my eyes that expressed the feelings I felt from the album. I love how she says things that are on everyone's mind but they may not have the courage to discuss.

My pieces are meant to showcase the beauty of black women. Our femininity and grace. Often black women are depicted as strong, and there is nothing wrong with being strong, but we are so many other things too. I use my photography as a way to showcase different aspects of black womanhood. I will slowly reveal my images featured at the show. I will be selling fine art prints and more --stay tuned!

There were a lot of talented artists that night. So honored to be amongst them.
